It’s no surprise that Rentons Labels is a company with more than a few label fans. We’re always looking for custom label designs with features which will pop, and we’re always working out how we can emulate strong label designs, tailored to our own capabilities.
Here’s a wrap up of some custom label designs with great metallic features which we love, from refined simplicity to dazzling decadence.
Our first catch comes from Ugly Half Beer and their holographic look metallic labels featured on their Oyster Stout Trio. The labels are inspired by the intricacies of an oyster, with a holographic design on a metallic stock that captures light and emulates the intricacies of an oyster shell. These label feature a unique die which cuts a negative silhouette oyster shell from the smaller bottle, and then uses the same shape in a positive on the larger.
The design is simple and pared back, it's refinement creates an eye-catching visual which plays on the subtle beauty and allows the bottle itself to be as much a part of the design as the label. It's an example of a unique beer label which strays from the norm of grungy craft beers to reflect their inspiration with an abstract clarity.
Using a metallic label stock allows the holographic visual design to pop, creating a design that's visually stunning but also will dazzle in light and dark. Using a SilverPP stock with a Gloss finish is the perfect way to get an effect like this, with a custom ordered die the icing on the cake to make your custom labels as eye-catching as the Oyster Stout Trio.
Our next favourite custom label comes from Positivity Branding, a branding agency in Amsterdam, for their work on Alembiq, a cocktail company based in Madrid. Their cocktails came about to marry the science and art of distillation and mixology to create perfectly balanced, pre-mixed craft cocktails.
Their labels are delightfully playful, with elements of retro design (like their stylised typefaces, and a ribbon banner) and each 'ingredient' of the cocktail, collaged together into the shape of the glass it's served in. An already fun design, it's only made better by the Alembiq 'garnish' at the top of each glass, a copper metallic semicircle with cut out text. The foiled company name modernises the label, and by that being the only metallic element, it allows it to contrast nicely against the textured stock.
To achieve this look and feel, we’d recommend the use of Rentons Premium, a metallic label stock with Custom Wine Labels and Spirit Labels in mind. It creates the textured look and feel that appears on this label along with the metallic label features with up to 40% savings on a traditional foiled label. Alembiq used Kurz foils for their labels, but with a silver stock you can match to any colour in the world, whether that be a classic copper Kurz or a metallic hot pink.
Chemistry Gin, a New Zealand gin is our third favourite of the day, and another label with beautiful colours and dreamy metallics. Designed by SingleDouble, it’s a label and product which pushes the Gin past its science based conception, into the human connections which enhance our lives.
The gin label is exceedingly stunning with an impressive minimalism that allows the beauty of the colours and the texture of the stock to stand impressively. With organic circle like orbs', colours combine together from yellow to green, blue to pink, and red to yellow, the metallic foiling creates the illusion of movement as the bottle shifts, portraying an organic interconnectedness.
Chemistry Gin was printed on a 100% cotton, uncoated paper stock, with a silver foil adding the high build, metallic finish. Using a metallic label stock, you can create a similar visual at a fraction of the cost. For your Custom Wine Labels and Spirit Labels, we recommend using the Rentons Premium finish which uses a metallic label stock and a paper-like laminate overtop.
Our fourth pick is Deko, a cocktail brand eliciting the romance of timeless jazz clubs and clandestine speakeasies from the roaring 20s. Their labels elevate spirits, with an art deco inspired design, perfect for their name, and contents.
The design features a pared back colour palette, with gold detailing complementing the deep backgrounds, and the featured pink, aqua, and orange. Each bottle label also features a gold foiled crest with an illustrated animal at their base, as well as a custom tamper seal adding a security feature that doubles as a premium detail.
The use of custom shape dies and metallic foiling, is a beautiful way to add a premium touch to your labels that matches the contents inside. In Deko’s case, they’ve used custom dies for the front label and the tamper seal. This ensures their custom labels fit perfectly with the bottle, both physically, but also visually to keep them from overwhelming the contents inside.
Our final pick for today is a bit of a personal favourite, and another which uses refined simplicity to create an eye-catching metallic label. I’m sure you can tell by now that I’m a sucker for a minimal metallic label, but Copper Spirit Distillery truly makes a fantastic case for simplicity without the sacrifice of style.
Designed by Glasfurd and Walker in Canada, their concept focused on the idea of nature defining luxury. This allowed the nature surrounding the distillery in Bowen Island, Canada, to be an integral element of their design, creating a standout custom label.
Each label features a copper foil on a solid background. From afar, the design appears abstract, however as you approach you note the impressive detail of the designs. From a pattern reminiscent of rings rippling on water to leaves on a branch, the silhouette illustrations are an ingenious implementation of the brand's core ethos, creating a naturally beautiful label design that echoes nature, and defines luxury.
For a label like this, we'd recommend a metallic silver stock with a matte laminate. This would allow you to create stunning copper coloured metallic elements which stand out from the bottle with a subtle sheen. Utilising a metallic stock allows you to create foiling effects anywhere you like. Copper Spirits could even use Personalisation and Customisation software to ensure each label has the leaves falling in a slightly different pattern!
